As part of its “Carbon Emissions Reduction Target 2008-2011” (CERT), the Government has instructed fuel suppliers to offer grants for insulation to reduce energy use in the home.
Within the next 3 years, 3 million homes will have their cavity walls and lofts insulated under this scheme.Any householder who is over 70 or in receipt of certain income related benefits or tax credits will be entitled to FREE insulation. Everyone else who owns their own home or rents it from a private landlord will be eligible for a substantial grant towards the cost of insulating their home.
It is not necessary to change fuel suppliers in order to qualify; the grants are not means tested and they do not have to be repaid. Government figures show that up to half of your heat escapes through uninsulated walls and lofts.
By insulating your cavity walls and loft you can reduce heat loss and cut your heating bills by up to £200 a year. Your house will warm up more quickly and you won’t need to keep the heating on for so long. Not only that, you will be saving energy and helping to protect the environment.
For Cavity Wall Insulation you will receive an independent 25 year guarantee from the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency, you can visit their web site at: www.ciga.co.uk
For all types of insulation our members also work to the highest standards of the British Board of Ágrement whose web site you can visit at: http://www.bbacerts.co.uk/
What Grants can I Recieve?
Generally, if your aged 70 or over, or in receipt of a Government Benefit, Credit or allowance, you can have your loft and cavity walls insulated completely free of charge.
If you are not 70 years of age or over and you do not receive any Government Benefit, Credit or allowance, you will be entitled to a subsidiary to help you cover the cost.
The subsidary amount varies across the UK, but as an example; a 4 bedroom detached house would normally cost approximately £608 without a grant, and £169 with a grant. Thats a huge saving of £439!
